Sen. John W. Warner, R-Va. is in a Fairfax County hospital for observation after a return of atrial fibrillation, an irregular heart rhythm.
Last fall, Warner was treated for the common heart condition. Over the course of the past several months, his heart rhythm and rate have been normal, according to a statement from his office.
Warner recently experienced a return of atrial fibrillation, and “in consultation with the Capitol Physician’s Office and his private doctors, is pursuing a re-evaluation and readjustment of medications which require regular monitoring and observation within a hospital environment,“ according to the statement.
Yesterday, Senator Warner came to his office, consulted with the Capitol Physician, completed his office appointments and left for a scheduled admission to Inova Fairfax Hospital, where he remains for observation.
Warner, 80, has announced he is not seeking re-election. Former Gov. Mark R. Warner is the Democratic candidate to succeed him. Former Gov. Jim Gilmore and Del. Robert G. Marshall, R-Prince William, are seeking the Republican nomination.
