When it comes to gas prices, it seems like they’re going sky high.
“Seems like we’re always putting money in the gas tank,” said Tammy Britt.
Ten On Your Side has some resources to help you. Mapquest’s (http://gasprices.mapquest.com) website lists gas prices in your area. The site reports they get their information from the Oil Price Information Service, or OPIS. You can even use a gas price calculator to determine how much a particular trip will cost you.
Another website can also help you find the cheapest gas. Motortrend’s website also reports prices from OPIS. But, like Mapquest, you need to pay attention to the date these prices are listed. One Citgo on Williamson Road was listed as the lowest price, at $3.45 a gallon for regular gas. On Friday afternoon, it rose ten cents, which shows the gas prices you see on these websites could change at any time.
Other websites rely on volunteer spotters to report the local prices, like http://www.gaspricewatch.com. But like the other sites, it will list how old or new the report is.
There are also other services available to find the lowest local gas prices. Ten On Your Side has posted those links on its website under “on air links.” There you will find links to cell phone text message alerts for low gas prices, as well as desktop downloads.
