• April 29, 2007: Someone fired multiple rounds into a car with two occupants traveling north on the highway, between Maury and Broad streets. The female was taken to VCU Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. The male driver was not injured.
• December 2003: Two Virginia state troopers working beside a disabled tractor-trailer on Interstate 95 near the Boulevard exit came under fire by someone in a passing Ford Expedition, police reported. No one was injured. About 10 shots were fired in the general direction of the troopers, police said. The tractor-trailer was on the northbound side of the interstate and the white Ford Expedition was southbound.
• May 2000: A Stafford County woman driving south on I-95 noticed a white van keeping pace beside her vehicle, according to state police . After about two miles, the man leaned out of the van and fired a single shot from a handgun toward the woman’s front right tire. Neither the woman nor her car were struck.
• August 1999: 18-year-old Sara Anne Bruehl was killed after a man opened fire on her vehicle on Interstate 64 in New Kent County
• June 25-29, 1996: The rear driver’s side window of a van traveling north on Interstate 295 in Hanover County was shattered by gunfire as it cleared the Meadowbridge Road overpass . The 37-year-old driver and her 10-year-old son riding in the van were not injured as bits of glass flew about in the back. 11 other vehicles were hit with gunfire earlier in the week in Richmond. Six were on Interstate 95 and five on other interstates. State police said they believed a pellet gun firing a hollow BB was being fired by someone riding on the highways.
