The cheering, the music, and the dancing. Fans of all ages at the Virginia Tech pep rally were there to see their favorite Hokies – the cheerleaders, the band, and the Hokie Bird.
But they were really there to see the football team, who will give it another try on Saturday.
“I did go to the game last week in Charlotte, disappointed in that. But hopefully we can go up there to Blacksburg tomorrow and have a better game,” said Gregg Flora.
But fans want to see a change in the beat for Saturday’s game after Coach Frank Beamer took away Tyrod’s redshirt status.
“I think he finally realized Tyrod can get the job done faster,” said Gale and Greg Huddleston.
Fans are hoping to see two quarterbacks, Tyrod Taylor and Sean Glennon, the same technique Beamer used last season.
“That there will be two quarterbacks mixing up the game, making it exciting. Throwing and the running in the game is different for the two quarterbacks,” said Jessica Anderson.
Others only want one man.
“More Tyrod. He’s quicker on the move and gets the job done,” said Greg Huddleston.
Some see the advantages to both quarterbacks.
“I love that [Glennon] likes to throw the ball, he makes it exciting that way and Tyrod runs the ball so it mixes it up,” said Anderson.
No matter who starts, fans say Hokie Nation is ready.
“I think the energy’s great. Everyone has Hokie spirit. I think it’ll get everyone pumped up for tomorrow,” said Danielle Gully.
Pumped up so when these guys leave the pep rally Friday night, they’re ready for Saturday.
The Hokies will be up against the Furman Paladins at 1:30 in Lane Stadium.
