Campbell County officials are discussing whether to stop maintaining the Altavista armory for community use.  The armory is state-owned, needs about $500,000 in repairs and costs the county about $40,000 per year to operate, county administrator David Laurrell said.

Aleth Harrison Mays Jr., the most recent victim in a rash of area traffic fatalities, died Tuesday night due to circumstances that could have been avoided, according to Virginia State Police.

Edward Lee Cox, 37, entered guilty pleas in Lynchburg Circuit Court to charges of robbery and abduction in the Jan. 11 incident, said Lynchburg Commonwealth’s Attorney Michael Doucette.

Five of the six male suspects are juveniles. Those teens are expected to appear in court next week where prosecuting attorney Charles Felmlee has filed notice of his plans to charge them as adults.
