All veterans of the Vietnam War and their families are invited to a cookout at American Legion Post 16 on Greenview Drive in Lynchburg Sunday from noon to 3 p.m.

The “Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans Day” commemorates the 35th anniversary of the completion of the U.S. Armed Forces withdrawal of combat troops from Vietnam.

To commemorate the anniversary, Central Virginia Chapter 196 of Vietnam Veterans of America is offering free membership for one year to all veterans of Vietnam as well as all others who served during the Vietnam era. The local chapter is the third largest of 20 in Virginia, with 160 members.

For more information about Sunday’s picnic, contact Steve Bozeman at (434) 384-7609. The local chapter’s web site is http://www.vvachapter196.com.
