The Central Va Livestock Show will be held on Saturday, May 3, 2008 at the Lynchburg Livestock Market. (The Lynchburg Livestock Market is located south of Lynchburg off of Rt. 29 on Livestock Road.)

The show includes 4-H and FFA members from Amherst, Appomattox, Bedford, Campbell, and Nelson County.

The 4-H and FFA members have been feeding, watering, caring for, and halter-breaking their animals since January. There are 70 exhibitors in the show and they will be exhibiting :7 market hogs, 39 market lambs, 9 breeding lambs, 5 market steers, and 23 registered and commercial breeding heifers.

There will also be a stockman’s contest to test the livestock knowledge of the 4-H and FFA members and adults.

The Schedule for the day is as follows:

9:00 a.m. - 9:30 a.m. - Swine Showmanship
9:30 a.m. - 10:00 a.m. - Market Hog Show
10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. Beef Showmanship
11:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. - Market Steer Show
11:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. - Heifer Show
12:30 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. - Sheep Showmanship
2:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. - Market Lamb Show
3:00 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. - Ewe Lamb Show
3:30 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. - Goat Showmanship
4:30 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. - Market Goat Show
5:00 p.m. - 5:30 p.m. - Doe Goat Show
7:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. - Market Hog, Steer, and Lamb Sale

The market animals have been fed so that after the show they will be sold to area farms, businesses, and individuals. After the sale, buyers will have the market animals taken to a Peak’s slaughter house to be slaughtered. A carcass show is scheduled for May 7th at 7:00 p.m. at Peak’s Slaughter house. The breeding classes are designed for animals that will be taken back to local farms and used for breeding stock. They will be judged based on their perceived value as a breeding animal.

The general public is invited to attend the Central Va Livestock Show and see the livestock.
