To ensure enhanced service to citizens, the Campbell County Board of Supervisors, at their June 16 meeting, approved extending the hours of operation for the Landfill Center (Livestock Road, across from Foster Fuels on Route 29) effective July 1, 2008.
The Campbell County Landfill Center hours of operation are as follows:
Daily - 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. (year round)
Friday - Sunday 6:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. (April – October)
This center is available for the disposal of general household refuse, including: bagged household waste, residential home-improvement debris, clean brush, tires, appliances, small bulk items, oil, batteries, and dried latex paint. Various recycling options are also available on-site.
These extended hours correspond with the July 1 implementation of the Concord Turnpike Regional Landfill, which will serve the counties of Campbell, Appomattox, and Nelson, as well as the cities of Lynchburg and Bedford. Business owners are reminded that all commercial refuse, regardless of business size, must now be deposited at the Concord Turnpike Regional Landfill, located at 2525 Concord Turnpike, Lynchburg; roofing shingles and deceased animals must also be taken directly to this regional site.
Citizens are encouraged to continue their use of the Campbell County Landfill Center for residential and bulk items. “If a resident finds it more convenient to use the landfill located on Concord Turnpike, they can go directly to that facility after July 1,” said Clif Tweedy, Director of Campbell County Public Works. “The Campbell County Landfill Center’s extended operating hours will provide county citizens with additional residential refuse options, at the local level, to meet their needs.” The current drop-off center sites, located throughout the County, will still be available to receive residential trash.
Campbell County residents are permitted up to 500 pounds of waste per household per month, at no charge, at the regional facility, if they choose to go directly to that site. Trash deposits over the limit will be charged 35 cents for each 20 pounds.
If you have questions regarding the Landfill Center or recycling options, prior to July 1, please call the Campbell County Landfill Office at 434-821-7125. After July 1, calls may be directed to Campbell County Public Works at 434-332-9528, 434-283-9528, or 592-9528; citizens may also contact the Concord Turnpike Regional Landfill at 434-455-6086.
