A Forest business was evacuated Friday afternoon after one of its propane tanks sprung a leak.
Deputy Fire Chief Lee Day, of Bedford County Fire and Rescue, said the propane tank at Forestry Equipment of Virginia began leaking around 1 p.m. when a propane contractor tried to change out a broken valve.
The 1,000-gallon tank had about 400 gallons in it when the leak started, Day said. All of the propane leaked from the tank and into the building. Firefighters used water to move the cloud of propane outside to allow it to dissipate.
Firefighters from Bedford, Forest, Campbell County and Lynchburg responded to the incident.
Day said no one was injured and the incident was routine.
