Lynchburg Police say they’re investigating counterfeit $100 bills being used at Wards Road and Timberlake Road businesses.
Officers tell us the criminals are using $5 bills that have been bleached and photocopied over with $100 bills.
Investigators say this process makes the fake money feel real, because it is the paper used by the U.S. Treasury Department.
Police tell us when held up to a light, the fake bills will show a watermark image of Abraham Lincoln. A real $100 bill will show a watermark image of Benjamin Franklin.
