A memorial service will be held today at Lynchburg College for a city man who police say died Friday evening after a section of a large tree broke off and struck him in the head.
Jordan Kicklighter, 36, worked in the college’s office of community advancement. He was an institutional and academic grants officer and worked to bring the observatory to the Claytor Nature Study Center, according to information posted at LC’s Web site.
Kicklighter’s family declined comment through the college.
According to police reports, Kicklighter died at an outdoor event at a private residence on Falcon Hill Place, near Cranehill Drive in Lynchburg.
Lynchburg Police Department Lt. G. R. Royal said that no investigation is underway and that the call came in 7 p.m. Friday as an injured person in a traumatic accident.
A memorial service for Kicklighter will be held at 11 a.m. today at LC’s Snidow Chapel, with the Rev. David Cobb officiating.
He is survived by his wife, Laura Ann Kicklighter, an LC faculty member, and two daughters.
