Former Lynchburg City Schools Superintendent Jim McCormick has been named in a lawsuit alleging he had a two-year “romantic and sexual relationship” with a teacher in a North Carolina school division.
McCormick left Lynchburg in 2005 to become superintendent of Lee County Schools, near Raleigh. He unexpectedly resigned from that position last month.
In a lawsuit filed Monday in Lee County, the plaintiff, Sherrill Normann Jr., contends McCormick “maliciously” intended to “destroy the love and affection” between Normann and his wife Margaret Normann, an elemen-tary school teacher in Lee County.
The suit also alleges McCormick “used his position as the Superintendent of the Lee County Schools to exploit Mrs. Normann.”
McCormick was at the helm of Lynchburg City schools for 14 years until he resigned to take the position in Lee County.
