Hunters for the Hungry, a Big Island program that distributes venison to charities and food banks across the state, received a record level of donated meat in 2007.

More than 364,000 pounds of deer meat was donated last year, surpassing the program’s goal by nearly 3,500 pounds.

The total was nearly 8,000 pounds more than was raised last year and is the most collected in a year since the program started in 1991.
