The caller said that their co-worker had not shown up for work for a couple of days. Deputies arrived on the scene after 10:00 a.m. and upon entering the home they found two dead bodies.

In addition to the bodies found at the scene, investigators said additional items of physical evidence were collected and will be submitted to the forensic science laboratory in Roanoke.

Investigators said an autopsy and the examination of the forensic evidence may take several weeks, however, preliminary investigation of the deaths does not indicate the involvement of a third party.

They said the investigation is ongoing.

In a statement released Friday by Curtis Brumfield's employer, Lynchburg Emergency Services, Director Melissa Foster said, "the staff of Lynchburg Emergency Services was deeply saddened to learn of the death of Curtis Brumfield."

According to the statement, Curtis Brumfield was employed with the department since 1998.

Foster's statement further read, "during that time Curtis made a profound impact on his co--workers and was a dedicated employee. He and his wife Susan will be missed by all of us. We extend our sympathy to their family. We also ask for privacy as the staff deals with the loss."
