Police arrested a man they say impersonated an officer and asked Wards Road businesses for security camera tapes last night, saying he was investigating a bank robbery.
The man, whom police have not yet identified, walked into the East Coast Service Station shortly before 11 p.m. and asked the clerk for the tapes, saying he was a police officer investigating a crime, police said.
Police said he asked other businesses for security tapes as well.
Authorities arrested the man after finding him in the Wal-Mart parking lot with a stolen vehicle, police said.
Items inside the car were “consistent with impersonating a police officer,” but the car was not — he was driving a stolen Isuzu sport utility vehicle, police said.
Police said the man is wanted on outstanding warrants in Botetourt County and Roanoke City.
