A man is dead after an apparent logging accident in Appomattox County Tuesday night.

Appomattox County Deputy Sheriff David O’Brien said about 8:30 p.m. he received a call that the 62-year-old man had been found under a tree near Rocks Church Road, near Bowler Creek Road, in the Pamplin area.

O’Brien said it wasn’t immediately clear how the tree had fallen.

He said someone passing by the scene noticed the man’s truck, but no one near it.

“He found that kind of odd, because normally at that time of evening, the people have gone,” O’Brien said.

Workers from the Pamplin Fire Department and the Appomattox Rescue Squad responded to the scene, but a medical examiner pronounced the man dead at the scene.

The victim’s name was not released.
