CARROLL CO. (WSLS 10) - A Carroll County man wanted on multiple charges lead deputies on an extensive foot chase through the woods Tuesday afternoon.

The incident happened around 3 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 16 at 797 Paul's Creek Road in the Cana community. Deputies with the Carroll County Sheriff's Office say they went to the residence in an attempt to serve arrest warrants on Roy Lee McCraw, 53, for trespassing and destruction of property.

When deputies pulled into the driveway, they say McCraw went out his back door in an effort to escape. McCraw ran into the woods, with what appeared to be a long gun.

Police attempted to talk with McCraw to surrender. McCraw told the deputies that 'he did not want to hurt them, but he would if they came closer.'

Deputies say McCraw ran approximately one mile from his home through the woods. Eventually, a sheriff's K-9 was deployed. McCraw was subsequently arrested. Police say additional charges may be placed after speaking with the Carroll County Commonwealth's Attorney.

McCraw is being held without bond at the New River Valley Jail.
