A 17-year-old boy accused of assaulting his grandmother, stealing her car and crashing it into a mobile home was arrested Saturday night on multiple felony charges and a misdemeanor, according to the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office.

The incident started around 8:20 p.m. Saturday at the boy’s grandmother’s home on Corner Lane, in the Candlers Mountain area, said Lt. W.L. Owen with the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office.

“(He) assaulted his grandmother, then stole her car and took off up the street,” Owen said.

The boy’s name is not being released because he is a juvenile, Owen said.

About a half-mile away on a dark and rain-slicked road, the boy lost control of the vehicle, Owen said.

The car ran off the street into two parked vehicles and went “completely through a storage shed” before striking a mobile home at 2649 Lone Jack Road, Owen said.

“He fled from the scene on foot and was arrested near his residence,” Owen said.

The boy is charged with felony abduction, felony unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, felony hit-and-run with property damage and misdemeanor domestic assault and battery.

The abduction charge likely stems from the juvenile preventing his grandmother from leaving her home, Owen said.

The grandmother was treated for minor injuries at the scene but refused hospital care, Owen said.

No one else was injured in the incident, which caused property damage in the thousands of dollars, he said.

The boy is being held in the Lynchburg Juvenile Detention Facility.
