Police say several complaints have been made by non-union members regarding vandalisms and intimidation since the strike began.

Virginia Tech researcher wins grant to develop chemical detection device

Masoud Agah of Tech explained that soldiers could pull the device from their pocket to determine if nerve gas is in the air. Doctors could use it to check patients’ breath for the presence of chemical compounds that signal diseases. For instance, acetone in a patient’s breath can be a marker for diabetes, Agah said.

Christine McNabb was one of the most focused people her step-father knew.  Police say McNabb was among a group of people, including Daniel Budzenski, McNabb’s boyfriend, who were crossing Duckpond Drive at Washington Street when they were hit by a car, last Saturday.

Toss in the trash; take out the treasure.  Commonwealth Recycling Services, an Ivanhoe-based business, is considering the purchase of an “in-vessel” composting system to help make Wythe County’s trash into useful material.
