Accident damages I-81 bridge, closes Pulaski Co. road

VDOT now says the accident has damaged the bridge carrying I-81 traffic.
Inspectors say an vehicle that was too tall hit the bridge, and damaged several beams. VDOT estimates it could take up to several weeks to repair the beams.
WSLS Photojournalist Jeff Perzan was on the scene, and saw a chunk of concrete knocked off of one of the beams, and scrapes on several other beams.
VDOT says the left southbound lane of I-81, as well as Rt. 611 will be closed indefinitely.

VDOT says an accident has closed Rt. 611 Newbern Road near Rt. 643 Cougar Trail Rd. in Pulaski County.
Traffic is being detoured onto Cougar Trail Rd. and a Forest Service Road.
The accident also has closed one nearby lane of I-81 Southbound.
