Former VT student convicted of DUI, driving SUV through crowd

A former Virginia Tech student is convicted on three felony counts of maiming, after her SUV ran off the road and through a crowd of people in Blacksburg in of June 2007.
Blacksburg police also charged 21 year old Mary Bowen with DUI. Bowen pleaded guilty to DUI.
A sentencing date has been set for August 13th.
The incident hurt three people back on June 16th, at 2:00 a.m. early in the morning.
Police say Bowen admitted that she had been sending a text message when she crashed. Her blood alcohol content measured 0.20 shortly after the crash, according to investigators. That’s two-and-a-half times the legal limit.
