The small town of Fries is expected to receive some big bucks from the state through grants totaling more than $1 million.
The town will use the money to revitalize the old mill site.
Piles and piles of bricks occupy the 14 acre property now and some people say it’s an eye sore. But, thanks to the grant money things are looking a little sweeter for the town.
“We’re trying to change the economy if you will from an old textile mill town to entrepreneur friendly, new business and recreational tourism development,“ says Town Manager Brian Reed.
The old textile mill property has been vacant since November of last year.
Town leaders hope to start meeting with developers no later than next fall to get some businesses out there for everyone to enjoy.
