Giles County Girl Struck by Car and Killed

A little girl in Giles County was killed while crossing the street. It happened Monday evening on Route 42 in Newport. After checking the mail, state police say 8 year-old Katelynn Hutson was crossing the road and was hit by a Dodge Caravan driven by Connie Martin. Hutson was airlifted to Roanoke Memorial where she died the next day. State police say no charges are expected against Martin because she was driving below the speed limit.
