If you live in the New River Valley, you may have seen it in the sky.
The Goodyear blimp is on a special stop in our area.
Fran Boyd with Thompson Tire is the main reason it’s here, she says the company is celebrating its 40th anniversary and to help celebrate Goodyear executives agreed to bring the blimp to the NRV.
The 192 foot long aircraft arrived Sunday night at the New River Valley Airport in Dublin and will leave Wednesday morning.
During their visit, the crew plans to fly over the NRV between 8 and 11pm Monday and Tuesday night with the night sign lit up.
During the day, crew members have been spending their time with hundreds of area school children teaching them about the blimp and giving mini-tours of the cabin.
Boyd says after seeing her children’s reaction when they flew in the blimp a few years ago, she figured the best way to give back to the community was to allow the school kids from surrounding counties to see the blimp up close.
