Two People Killed in Accident on I-77 in Wythe Co.

State Police tell 10 On Your Side Phillip Hughes was driving North on I-77 around 5 p.m. Wednesday when his car went across the median and into the far right lane southbound.
That’s when they say he hit a tractor trailer head on.
The force spun his car back into the median.
The tractor trailer driver, Eugene Altman from Pifton, GA tried to move into the shoulder, but couldn’t avoid the crash.
That’s when the semi crashed into a parked car on the shoulder.
State Police say Willard Bostic of Palmer, AK was changing a flat tire.
His wife Dorothy and grandson were sitting inside the car.
When the tractor trailer hit Bostic’s car it was spun 180 degrees back onto the interstate.
Bostic was pinned undearneath and killed.
Hughes survived the crash, but died later at the scene.
The truck driver was not hurt.
Dorothy Bostic was awake and talking at the scene, but was airlifted to a North Carolina hospital for treatment.
The grandson was taken by ambulance also to a North Carolina hospital, but is expected to be okay.
State Police say they did find empty alcohol containers in Hughes’ car.
The crash is under investigation.
