After 27 years of fighting crime in Wytheville, a local police officer turns in his badge to help troops fight the war in iraq.
Sgt. Trenton Crockett retired from the force on Thursday and expects to arrive in Iraq in September.
Crockett spent his final hours at the police department cleaning out his locker, desk and saying good-bye to co-workers.
“Most people say you go retire, what are you going to do? Well, most people would say I’m going to Disneyland, not me…30 days later I’m going to jet over to Iraq.“
Crockett will work for R-4 incorporated.
It’s a private company that contracts with the Department of Defense to provide troop support.
