A Bland County motorist was airlifted to a Roanoke hospital following a single-vehicle accident Thursday in Wytheville. Terence Courtney Martin, 33, was listed in critical condition Friday afternoon, a hospital spokesman said.
According to Capt. Rick Arnold of the Wytheville Police Department, Martin was operating a 1987 Ford pickup in the 200 block of Withers Road around 12:33 p.m. His vehicle left the road and struck a tree in the yard of a residence.
Arnold reported Martin was unresponsive when officers arrived. The driver was transported to Wythe County Community Hospital and later airlifted to Roanoke Memorial Hospital, Arnold said.
The captain noted there was considerable damage to the vehicle and tree. The accident, he noted, is still under investigation and charges are pending.
The investigating officer was B.E. Boggs.
