Man with sword walks into NRV Medical Center

A bizarre incident at a New River Valley hospital this morning.
Both Carilion and the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office tell us a 57-year-old man wielding a sword walked into the Carilion New River Valley Medical Center this morning.
Carilion spokesman Eric Earnhart tells us the man tried to enter a secure area on the NRV Medical Center. The the building’s security system locked down the corridor the man was in, and isolated him until officers arrived to subdue and arrest him. No one was hurt.
Deputies tell us the man is being evaluated. He also faces an assault charge.
