Police say the man accused of shooting two people on the Appalachian Trail in Giles County is expected to be released from the hospital sometime today. 54-year-old Randall Smith faces five charges including attempted capital murder. Police say he shot two fishermen Tuesday night. Meanwhile, investigators are still searching for evidence along the trail in the Dismal Creek and Sugar Run Road area of Pearisburg. Scott Johnston, one of the shooting victims, is still in the hospital. He has been upgraded to good condition.
