Forrest Green or as friends called him, Fess, was an avid bicyclist, a dedicated professor at Radford University and a committed volunteer of Pathways for Radford a group which promotes and works on restoring bike ways and trails in Radford.
Green died earlier this week after he was hit by a car while riding his bike on his way home April 23rd.
Radford police say the driver, 20 year old Bryan Sherman has not been charged but the accident remains under investigation.
Fellow volunteer and president of Pathways for Radford Liz Altieri says Green was a “bull dog” when it came to getting things done.
“He was always there at the meetings, he was always there to bring up issues you could always count on him to make sure we fully explored and fully discussed every issue. I’ll just miss his presence, he’d make you laugh, sometimes he’d frustrate you but that was the thing that was great about Fess as I said he was a bull dog and he got things done.”
Graduate assistant Preston Hyde says the professor always made time for his students.
“He never missed a class he was always just like I said before he always just willing to help him he always had his door open for them.”
Radford will hold a memorial service for Green Sunday night at 7pm in the Ken Bondurant Auditorium in Preston Hall.
In lieu of flowers, Altieri says family members prefer donations be made to the Fess Green Wildwood Park Memorial Fund care of Pathways for Radford.
