A local school employee is suspended after being charged with assaulting a student.

It happened at Patrick Springs Primary School.

According to court papers, a witness saw 53 year-old Ruth Daves strike a 6 year-old student on the head.

Daves has been teaching at Patrick County schools since 1986.

According to the school’s website, she’s a special education teacher.

Police are charging her with assault and battery on a juvenile.

Daves was released on a $1,000 bond.

According to court records, she admits to touching the student, but says it was just a nudge.

Her trial has been scheduled for July.
