Teacher charged with assaulting student

A local school employee is suspended after being charged with assaulting a student.
It happened at Patrick Springs Primary School.
According to court papers, a witness saw 53 year-old Ruth Daves strike a 6 year-old student on the head.
Daves has been teaching at Patrick County schools since 1986.
According to the school’s website, she’s a special education teacher.
Police are charging her with assault and battery on a juvenile.
Daves was released on a $1,000 bond.
According to court records, she admits to touching the student, but says it was just a nudge.
Her trial has been scheduled for July.
