It’s been a whirlwind week for Angela Tincher and teammates, but it’s the announcement that she’s the USA Softball National Collegiate Player of the Year that’s really throwing Tincher for a loop.
“I definitely had no idea which way it was going to go. Just to be selected out of the three was really flattering,” Tincher said.
Tincher may not believe it yet, but her James River High School Softball Coach, John Shotwell, is certainly not surprised.
“I still get goosebumps all over me when anybody even talks about her,” Shotwell said.
When Tincher walked the halls of James River High School her senior year, she didn’t know where she was going to go to college or if she was even going to play softball, but fellow-softball players and coaches say they knew she was an ace all along.
“I think she’s the greatest player I’ve ever coached up to this point,” Shotwell said.
Tincher’s career has flown by just about as fast as her 60-some mile an hour fastball.
“I don’t think I would have ever thought when I started in Little League this would be possible,” Tincher said.
You can bet Tuesday night will stick in her memory for a long time.
