A tractor trailer accident that happened this morning on Interstate 81 caused traffic delays well into the afternoon.

Traffic was backed up for about five miles near Wytheville. State police say Ashley Ovsijenko of Richmond was traveling southbound on 81 when she ran her van off the road and struck a guard rail, which left the back of her vehicle in the path of oncoming traffic.

Police say the driver of a tanker stopped to avoid hitting the woman when he was rear ended by another tractor trailer.

The driver of the tractor trailer was charged with following too closely.

Ovsijenko was charged with failure to maintain control.
