GALAX, Va. (AP) - Vaughan Furniture Company says about 275 will lose their jobs when the 85-year-old company closes its manufacturing plant in Galax.
Officials said the move is a direct result of the popularity of imported wooden bedroom furniture.
The company will still operate its distribution center and corporate offices in Galax.
Layoffs at the manufacturing plant will begin May 20.
Vaughan Furniture was founded in Galax in 1923 by Taylor George Vaughan, his wife, Blanche Bassett Vaughan, and his brother Bunyan C. Vaughan.
