Batter up! The New York Yankees are coming to town and Virginia Tech is getting ready.
Dozens of work crews were at English Field Monday preparing for Tuesday’s big game.
It’s all to give the Hokies a special break after April 16th, soon after the shootings the Yankees donated one million dollars to the Hokie Spirit Memorial Fund and put a tribute on the field and on their hats.
Monday, administrators with the athletic department where checking things over to make sure all the bases were covered, Associate Director Tom Gabbard says “It’s almost like doing Dave Matthews all over again although it wasn’t quite that big.”
The last big project was finishing construction on the terraces which will seat an extra 1,500 people, in all 5,000 people will be able to see the game from the field.
For those who didn’t get a ticket, VT students, faculty and staff will be able to see the game on the big screen at Lane Stadium.
Gates at English Field open at noon, batting practice is at 1pm, Lane Stadium will open at 2:30 pm and the first pitch will be at 3:10pm.
