Workers at Volvo’s Dublin plant say they will go back to work.
UAW Local 2069 President Lester Hancock tells 10 On Your Side union members ratified the new contract with a 90 percent vote, late Saturday night.
Hancock says the health and safety issues with the company have been worked out.
Union Vice President Tim Barnes also tells WSLS the workers will go back to work the Monday after Easter, March 24. Barnes says the company notified the union, the workers will be laid off during the week of March 17 and the workers should collect unemployment.
Jim McNamara, Senior Communications Manager for Volvo’s truck division, told us on the phone late Saturday night he had not heard the contract had been ratified. McNamara says he passed our earlier inquiry about the layoff to another Volvo spokesman.
As of 11:30 Saturday night, neither Volvo spokesman had called us back for comment on the contract deal or the layoff.
