As you know today is the deadline to register to vote in Virginia and registrar offices were swamped.
“We’ve entered probably close to 500 applicants in the last four days, said Radford Deputy Registrar Janet Parish.
Radford Registrar Tracy Howard says he’s also seeing a lot of problems on applications. “They’re actually not including home addresses…means for us to get in touch with them by mail.“
Which means the application is incomplete and denied. “The only thing we’re required to do by law is to notify the applicant by mail that something is missing,“ said Howard.
But instead he’s calling and emailing applicants so they can fix the problem before it’s too late. “I hate to deny applications after the deadline because they just have no option at that point,“ said Howard.
WSLS 10 on your side did some checking and offices tell us it takes about three weeks to get your voter card in the mail.
Also, if you live in West Virginia, you have until October 15th to register.
