VT police department places 1st in chiefs challenge

The Virginia Tech Police Department won first place in the Virginia Chiefs Association http://www.vachiefs.org/vacp Chiefs Challenge 2007.

The Virginia Tech department earned this award through exemplary service in the fields of traffic enforcement, DUI/alcohol enforcement, child safety seat education/installation, and traffic safety education. This is the first year that the Virginia Tech Police have received first place in the category of university police. They received the third place award in 2006.

The Virginia Tech Police Department held programs including, a multi-jurisdictional checkpoint on Washington Street and West Campus Drive and helped other police departments with the Click It or Ticket checkpoints throughout the year.

Each police department in the Commonwealth of Virginia that provides programs and events aimed at keeping Virginia communities safe are eligible to compete in the Virginia Chiefs Association Chiefs Challenge and be recognized for their hard work by their peers. Awards are presented at the Law Enforcement Challenge Luncheon in August at the Virginia Association of Chiefs of Police Annual Conference at The Homestead http://www.vachiefs.org/vacp/activities/item/2008_vacp_vpcf_annual_conference/ each year.
