Here’s the news release from the Center:
Floyd VA. The Jacksonville Center for the Arts is sponsoring a free community art project titled, “Show Us Your Floyd.“ The Center is calling for all Floyd residents and visitors to submit photos for a large montage display in the downstairs Breezeway Gallery.
“This is envisioned as a celebration of the participants’ vision of what “Floyd” means to each of them: the best memory of Floyd; a favorite individual/plant/animal in Floyd; a fondest image of Floyd - whatever can be captured on film that represents Floyd,“ said John McEnhill, Executive Director of the Center. “We want everyone to show us their Floyd. This is intended to be something for anyone of any age who has taken a photo that they like that represents Floyd for them. There are no fees to participate.“
The photo(s) will be incorporated into a photo mosaic and installed in the Center’s Breezeway Gallery for public display. All appropriate photos received by the deadline of July 25, 2008 will be included. Participants can submit up to two - 4 inch by 6 inch photographic images, either black & white or color. Printed 4 inch by 6 inch photos can be sent or delivered to: The Jacksonville Center for the Arts, 220 Parkway Lane, Ste. 1, Floyd, VA 24091
An opening reception for the exhibit will be held on August 1 as part of the Center’s First Fridays Celebration, 5 to 7 pm, at the Center. The project will be on display from August 2008 through October 2008.
To be included in the exhibit, participants may submit digital prints, color copies, or standard photographic black and white or color prints. Digital images must be printed and photos cannot be submitted electronically or on a disc. Only 4 x 6 images will be accepted for exhibit.
Images must be appropriate for viewing by all ages. Images will not be returned, so participants are discouraged from submitting their heirloom, one-of-a-kind photos unless it is a duplicate of favored or irreplaceable images. Participants are requested to include their name and address with the photo for a booklet of participants included in the exhibit. Participants have the option to share why their photo(s) means “Floyd” to them with this information printed legibly on a 4 by 6 inch index card. This background information should not be printed directly on the backs of the photos, as this may damage the images. The Jacksonville Center reserves the right to reject any images submitted.
