Another local hospital is tobacco-free. Wythe County Community Hospital began a new policy banning all tobacco products on campus.
The only place you’ll be able to light up or chew is in your own car.
Signs have been posted at the hospital’s entrance and the front door to remind all employees and visitors about the new policy.
CEO Erric Deaton says the decision is all about promoting a healthy lifestyle. “If you explain to them we’re doing this for their benefit…that we’re a health care facility…then I think people will understand.“
Deaton tells WSLS since the new policy went into effect about a dozen employees have stopped smoking.
