The media wasn’t very welcome by the time the week of April 16 ended last year.  Students felt reporters were too invasive, and asked for the media to go home.  For this year’s anniversary, another flood of media is expected, but this time campus officials have a plan.

Ten months after a student massacre at Virginia Tech, state colleges and universities aren’t eligible for direct federal aid for homeland-security initiatives. But Virginia Tech and Gov. Timothy M. Kaine are quietly lobbying Congress for a $1 million budget earmark to pay for university research to identify threats to campus security and prevent mass killings such as the ones at Tech and Northern Illinois University.
