Hundreds of students, teachers and relatives gathered today to remember Virginia Tech French teacher Jocelyn Couture-Nowak -- one of five professors among the 32 victims in the campus massacre a week ago in Blacksburg.
Couture-Nowak's wooden coffin was draped in the Acadian flag as pallbearers carried it through a campus garden while her husband and three daughters looked on.
Student John Welch said people weeping for those in the Virginia Tech community should also be sad because they never knew the teacher he refered to a Madame.
For nearly an hour, family and friends remembered Couture-Nowak as an effervescent dynamo of energy who treasured humor, laughter and love and was called "JoJo" by some.
Couture-Nowak's husband said goodbye as he looked out on the large crowd.
"If there is a heaven," he said, "this is your heaven."
