BLACKSBURG, Va. (AP) - The pastor of a Blacksburg, Virginia church is calling on members of his congregation to put the pain of last week's Virginia Tech shooting rampage behind them.

Pastor Tommy McDearis of Blacksburg Baptist Church delivered a sermon today in which he said people need to return to classes tomorrow, to avoid surrendering to "the darkness" that visited the school last week.

He says they can't "give up" or "quit doing all of the things that really matter in life."

He told of a professor who was devastated by the deaths of several of his students, and who didn't know whether he could go back. But McDearis says the professor knew that failing to return would betray the memories, hopes and dreams of the victims.

The pastor said, "We owe them more than to just throw in the towel."
