BLACKSBURG, Va. (AP) - Police say they're still working hard to find some connection that might explain the Virginia Tech massacre.

But Virginia State Police spokeswoman Corinne Geller says the "how and why" may never be fully understood because the gunman is dead.

Geller says authorities are still trying every avenue to establish a link between the killer and his 32 victims.

Police have requested a search warrant for Emily Hilscher's laptop and cell phone. She was gunned down in her dormitory, one of the first two people to die. In court papers, investigators say gunman Seung-Hui Cho might have communicated with her via computer.

Police also want Cho's cell-phone records to see if he may have communicated his plans with anyone else. And they are seeking search warrants for information from student e-mail accounts.
