Some of the same grief counselors at locations we all know just from their names such as Columbine, Oklahoma City, and Ground Zero, are now on the ground at Virginia Tech.
Dr. Ray Giunta, a key member of the Columbine crisis response team, is one of them.
"You see that same gut-wrenching, 'my world has just fallen apart because my beautiful young person isn't here anymore" feeling, Giunta said of the near half dozen families of shooting victims he has worked with so far on Tech's campus.
Giunta worked with the families of every Columbine victim except the two shooters' families.
He was also the chaplain at the New York City morgue following the 9/11 attacks.
Giunta also worked with families and first emergency responders after the Oklahoma City bombing in 1995.
Giunta has written a book on the best ways to handle grief after traumatic events.
He said the big challenge for many Tech students will be seeking out the same counseling help the university is providing them on campus when they return home for the summer.
