Local woman pleads guilty in wheelchair scam

Bonnie Cowen was arrested for helping her husband, Michael Cowen, deveive people into buying power wheelchairs.

They worked with an Ohio-based company called Active Solutions.

The wheelchairs were billed to Medicare and Medicaid.

The federal agencies paid almost $26 million in claims to Active Solutions.

Cowen’s guilty plea could put her in prison for up to five years and she could also be fined up to $250,000.
