Just in time for spring showers, discover ways to conserve water and reduce runoff. Learn how to construct a rain barrel, build it and take it home. Rain barrels are great for conservation. The rainwater you collect can be used to water gardens or lawns. It’s all at Danville Science Center’s Rain Barrel Workshop on Saturday, April 26 from 1–3 p.m. A material fee will apply and is estimated at $50. Pre-registration is required by Thursday, April 24.
“Rain barrels offset water usage on lawns and gardens, and thanks to the efforts of “Clean Virginia Waterways,” the barrels themselves are recycled,” says Danville Science Center Director Jeff Liverman. “Clean Virginia Waterways works with Mt. Olive Pickle Company to make the empty barrels available at the cost of transportation and storage. The Science Center is one of a handful of sites around the state where citizens can acquire and learn to assemble the rain barrels.”
Science Center admission is included in the workshop fee. For information call (434) 791-5160 or visit http://www.dsc.smv.org. The Danville Science Center is located at 677 Craghead Street.
