Crash kills Gretna man in Halifax Co.

A Gretna man died in a single-car wreck Tuesday in Halifax County, Virginia State Police said.
Lacy Betterton James Jr., 58, died at the scene of the crash at 9:30 a.m. on state Route 40 just east of state Route 822 when his sport utility vehicle overturned several times and landed on its top, police said.
He was wearing his seat belt, authorities said.
The fatality brought the state’s highway death toll this year to 292, compared with 339 at the same time last year.
