Police arrested a man last night for stealing copper from a Main Street business.

Shortly before 12:30 a.m. officers saw a suspicious person near the rear door of the YWCA at 750 Main Street, according to a statement from the police department. Upon further investigation and calling for assistance, police found the back door had been forced open.

Police found 39-year-old Ivan Broadnax of Danville inside the building and that several copper pipes had been cut inside the building. They also found a broken hacksaw by the door.

Police charged Broadnax with breaking and entering with intent to commit larceny and possession of burglary tools.
