Mayor Sherman Saunders announced this morning he will run for re-election.

Saunders said he is proud of the progress the city has made in economic development.

“Maintaining economic development initiatives, and regional cooperation, will be among my primary goals,” he said.

Saunders was elected to city council in 1996 and was defeated in 2000. He was appointed to council after Danny Marshall was elected to the House of Delegates. Saunders led the ticket in the council race four years ago.

“I am proud of Danville’s progress during this time, and I know we continue to be headed in the right direction,” he said.

The city council election is May 6.
